Children's Online Database Workshop

On Monday, December 6, at 7:00 p.m., the Children’s Services Department will conduct an online children’s database training session in the Computer Lab for children and their accompanying parents. The training includes library’s recently acquired BookFlix, Brainfuse, Learning Express, and California Mission e-books. Tween Program - "Caroline" Book Discussion

On Tuesday, November 16 at 4:00 p.m. in the Friends Room, the Children’s Services Department will host a pre-teen program for children aged 9-12. Children’s staff will introduce a popular children’s book, “Coraline,” written by Neil Gaiman, a Newbery children’s book award winner. This program is free with light refreshments. Tween Program

On Tuesday, February 15 at 4:00pm in the Friends Room, the Children's Services Department will have a special film showing for children aged 9-12.

This animated adventure film is based on a children's book written by Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett. It is about a town where food falls from the sky like rain, and a young inventor hopes to create something that will change everyone's life. However, when the weather takes a turn for the worse, the residents of the town find their eating habits have drastically changed!

Tween Program -- Scrapbooking

On Tuesday, October 19 at 4:00 p.m. the Children’s Services Department will host a pre-teen scrapbooking program for children aged 9-12 in the Friends Room. Materials are free for the first twenty tweens. For more information about the program, call the Children's Desk at (626) 307-1358.


In-N-Out 'Cover to Cover Club' Reading Program

Beginning Monday, October 11 the Library will participate in the In-N-Out Burger "Cover to Cover Club" Reading Program for children ages 4 to 12. To participate, children need to register at the Children’s Desk to receive a reading log and check out books at their reading level from the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library. The "Cover to Cover Club" achievement award is good for a free hamburger or cheeseburger at any In-N-Out Burger. Children who are too young to read may participate by having books read to them by their parent or guardian. Children may receive up to three award certificates during this six-week reading program. The “Cover to Cover Club” Reading Program will end on Thursday, November 18. For further information, call the Children’s Desk at (626) 307-1358.

Yoga for Preschoolers

The Library has invited Ms. Mia Zhang to present a "Yoga for Preschoolers" program on Thursday, October 21 after the Preschool storytime at 11:00am in the Friends Room. The program is for children to learn of a simple and fun yoga exercise including breathing, relaxing, balance and how to work well as partners.

Children need to bring their own yoga mats and wear soft exercise clothing. The accompanying adults/caregivers are also welcome to join in this fun-filled 30-minute healthy program.

Ms. Zhang was a professional dancer and choreographer on the naitonal stage in Beijing, China. She is a certificated yoga teacher and currently is pursuing her teaching certificate in Child Development.

Valentine Program for Preschoolers

In celebration of Valentine's Day, on Thursday, February 10 at 10:30a.m. the Children's Department will hold a special Valentine's Day storytime in the Storytime Room. After the storytime, preschoolers and their accompanying parents may stay for a special "Valentine Wreath" craft project.
