“Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!” Program
To celebrate the birthday of beloved children’s author Theodore Geisel – also known as Dr. Seuss -- the Children’s Services Department will hold a special Dr. Seuss video showing and book giveaway program in the Friends Room at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2.
Theodore Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904, in Springfield Massachusetts. During his long career, Geisel wrote and illustrated 44 children’s books, including the classic children’s books The Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham which have sold more than 200 million copies worldwide. Although he was told by a high-school art teacher that he would never be an artist, Seuss illustrated many of his books. Seuss died in September 1991, at the age of 87.
The program starts with a 30-minute “Dr. Seuss the Cat in the Hat Comes Back” video showing. After the video showing, there will be a raffle drawing to give away “Dr Seuss” books to the participating children. At the end of the program, all the attendees may stay to enjoy a piece of birthday cake to celebrate the birthday of this special man who has made so many children smile.
