Family Programs
In January 2007, LAMP staff and AmeriCorps members received training for a new health and literacy program called, "Literacy, Food & Fitness." This program will help low-literacy children and adults learn how to read nutrition labels, choose healthy foods, plan balanced meals, discover the joy of reading children's books, and learn fun exercises that families can do together to stay healthy. Contact LAMP now about the "Literacy, Food & Fitness" program by emailing LAMP or giving us a call at (626) 307-1251 for more information.
LAMP also offers the Monterey Park KIDS READ Program where we work primarily with ELL (English Language Learners) in grades K-8. Since 2000, we have assisted 489 low-literacy children and 206 low-literacy parents improve their skills. This summer, LAMP staff and and AmeriCorps member received training by the Museum of Contemporary Art to offer a six-week Art & Literacy course to elementary school children.
