Message From the Librarian, Barbara Morrow Williams, MLS, PhD
It’s August (already!), and the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library is preparing itself for a new school year! The Library Foundation will present a major book sale here in the Library’s Friends Meeting Room from Sunday, August 22 through Thursday, August 26. Bring your family and neighbors to see what great buys in books, magazines and media are available for school, college, work or for just relaxing.
New Senior Librarian
We are delighted to welcome a new Senior Librarian for Adult and Teen Services! Cindy Costales, MLS, joined us in July, just in time to prepare the first floor of the library for the new school year. She is our Guest Columnist this month. Read on to see what she has to say!

Summer Reading Program Certificate Party Made a Splash!
More than 150 children and their accompanying family members celebrated their summer reading achievement on August 19 at Langley Center featuring a five-time world record juggler David Cousin's exciting and fun-filled program. The refreshments included cupcakes, gold fish cookies and punch drinks.
This year's Summer Reading Program was from June 28 through August 5 with a theme of “Make a Splash — READ." This program was open to infants through sixth graders.
During the six-week program, children who read ten books received a reading certificate and an invitation to the August 19 Certificate Party. The library staff would like to extend their appreciation to Francis Liu, a veteran children's services supporter, who generously donated her homemade 320 delcious cupcakes topped with colorfully designed M&M candies and gummy worms.
For information about children's upcoming programs, please call the Children's Desk at (626) 307-1358.
