Janitor

PART-TIME LIBRARY PAGE

The Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library is now taking applications for part-time Library Pages. The person will work 10-19 hours a week and may be scheduled to work evenings, Saturdays or Sundays. The starting salary is $8.00 per hour.

The library will accept applications any time during the year for Page positions.

IMMIGRATION REFORM AND CONTROL ACT OF 1986: In compliance with IRCA of 1986, all new employees must verify identity and entitlement to work in the United States by providing required documentation. All new employees must have a valid Social Security card.

The written test is tentatively scheduled for August 4, 2009. Applications must be received by July 24, 2008.

Passing on the written test is 70 percent. If you want to know your score, you can leave a stamped, self-addressed envelope or call (626) 307-1269 a week after the test. The Eligibility List will be good for a year. Library staff will interview from the list starting at the top as vacancies occur. Staff will check references of the top candidates. Employees must have their fingerprints checked before employment. If a candidate has another job, he or she will need to get approval from the City to have additional paid employment. The library sets the work schedule. Classes, vacations or other employment must be worked around when the library needs the Page. The library is open seven days a week and closed only for holidays. The City will deduct 4 percent for retirement and 1.45 percent for Medicare. The retirement money is refunded when the person leaves. Page positions are part-time and have no benefits other than those listed above. It is the policy of the City of Monterey Park to achieve a drug and alcohol free workplace. Any applicant for City employment will be expected to comply in accordance with this policy. Those under the age of 16 must have a work permit.
